Yulia Lyuricheva is one of the Town's residents and the architect of the road system. Both a rationalist and a skeptic, she is regarded as quite a fatalist among the locals in town.

Description

“	Calm-tempered. Very clever. Slightly absent-minded. A heavy smoker (comes with being a heavy thinker, and a nervous one at that). Her speech is slightly automatonlike, as if her mind’s somewhere else, deep in the midst of frenzied calculations unrelated to the conversation at hand. She moved to the town from the Capital and worked as a road planner. It is to her that the town owes its fences and its peculiar layout. She reinvented the very idea of roads and the circulation of people along them, as she got close to perceiving the town as a living body. She’s a “scientific mage” in the same sense that the Stamatins are architectural mages. Ironically, Yulia walks with a limp.	„

By Yulia's nature as an observer, she prefers to listen rather than talk. She draws attention to the hidden connections between events and formulates a theory about the effect of fate. While her theory has not been proven, Yulia often manages to anticipate events and tries to see the hidden motives of other people.

Background

Yulia was hired by the Kain family to plan out the roads of the Town. She has remained in the Town ever since. She lives and works with a friend in the Trammel, a library in the Chine.

Appearance

Yulia wears her blonde hair tied back behind her head, and her eyes are a light grey. She wears very light makeup, with a shadow around her eyes and pink lipstick. She wears a white collared shirt with the buttons shut, with a grey cardigan and long green leather coat. A black ribbon hangs from her cardigan, and her coat is buttoned up. She wears black tights and laced grey shoes.

Plot

Haruspex Route

“

My path was called "Tripwires of Fate." I built the roads of this town such that humans became red blood cells in its veins. And I laid bare the logic of immanence.

On the second day Yulia Lyuricheva can be met by the Haruspex while she is sitting on the balcony of Capella's Wing in the Lump. While not directly involved in any of the early days' events she can discuss her part in designing the Town's streets layout for the Kains with him. The explains that she was called to the Town by Simon Kain to plan the roads as she was one of the few who could understand the Kain's strange plan. The Kain's wished for the roads to be designed in such a way that they would effect an individuals mood and change their "soulstate". The Kain's believe that the Town has something like a nervous system already and as such Yulia's job was, as she describes, "acupunctural".

She isn't seen again until the sixth day where she will is attempting to offer her help in the Hospital set up within the Theatre. If this is the first time the Haruspex meets her she will detail her work on the roads on behalf of the Kains here instead. In the evening, Yulia will reach out to the Haruspex to speak with him at her home in the Trammel regarding the arrival of the Inquisitor the following day. She states that she has worked with the Inquisition before, and suggests she knows Aglaya Lilich personally. She warns him of the Inquisitors' methods, and tells him that he will be a pawn in her game. She suspects that the Haruspex will be particularly important to the Inquisitor's plan, though she doesn't know exactly how.

Yulia can be seen outside of the Cathedral with Mark Immortell on the seventh day, waiting to be interrogated. She explains that although she worked with the Inquisition she is still somewhat unsure of exactly what their methods and goals are. She reassured the Haruspex that as he is one to think with his heart he may be able to understand instead.

When the Army arrives, she can be found in the Town Hall along with Victor Kain and the Bachelor, all three facing Alexander Block and a map of the Town. She has nothing to say to the Haruspex.

In the Diurnal Ending, she can be found in the Broken Heart, sitting with Andrey Stamatin, Peter Stamatin and the Bachelor. She reveals that she knows the Haruspex to be responsible for the way things have unfolded, and suggests he come with her to the Capital as a research assistant.

In the Nocturnal Ending, she flees the Town with many of the Utopians and Humbles.

The Marble Nest

Yulia is still alive during the events of Pathologic: The Marble Nest. Her location and status are marked as being in danger in the Trammel, which suggests that she is still across the river in the condemned area of Town. According to the Changeling, Yulia is the only one capable of understanding what is unfolding, referring to matters of fate as opposed to the Bachelor's assumption of the Outbreak's origins.

• In the same conversation, she states that she has a walking disability.

Yulia Lyuricheva is a resident in the Town. She considers herself a fatalist, and is the founder of the Humble ideology. She is a mathematician and views the universe with a skepitcal, rationalist approach.

“	Appearance: Yulia is thin and phlegmatic. She wears her blonde hair short. Yulia smokes a lot, her arms are lean and the skin is almost translucent with her veins visible. Yulia is always a bit disheveled, she doesn’t pay much attention to her appearance. There’s a dreamy look on her face, vacant eyes and subtle smile. Pose: Seated on an old armchair while hugging the back of the seat, head resting on her arms as if she’s about to fall asleep. Personality: Yulia reads a lot and thinks a lot as well. She’d rather listen than talk. It feels like she emits beams of light from her body; there’s always some spiritual inner process going inside of her. Yulia is a welcome guest to many families. Usually she sits in the corner and silently observes others. She is known for her observance. A few years ago she started a diary. The diary begins with her memories of meeting Lara and her circle of friends. During these years they had their ups and downs and in the end the bounds that held them together began to break. While researching this phenomenon, Yulia extracted some principles out of it. Gradually she came to a rather symmetrical conclusion about the relation between the movements of those people in town and the seemingly random events happening afterwards.She developed a sort of playful and derisive theory: there are invisible strings that cross every road in town (collectively — a Path); cutting them will result in a series of harmful accidents. Yulia is the creator of the ideology of Humility. By Yulia's nature as an observer, she prefers to listen rather than talk.

She draws attention to the hidden connections between events and formulated a theory regarding the effect of fate, which she calls the "trip wires of fate". While her theory has not been proven, Yulia often manages to anticipate events and to see the hidden motives of people. She emphasizes that she does so not through intuition, but with her mind.

Background

Yulia came to the Town with an engineering team during the modernization of the town. She worked on the laying of the roads and served as a logistician. She decided to stay in town, stating that cause-effect relationships are particularly evident there, which she wished to observe.

Appearance

Yulia has short blonde hair cut just above her ears and large blue eyes. She is usually seen frowning or in deep thought. She wears a long green peacoat, with a large black collar flared out from her neck, and similar large cuffs around her wrists. She wears a patterned white scarf, which is wrapped and tucked into her jacket much like a cravat. A black belt with a silver buckle sits on her waist. Her coat flares out around her legs, which gives the allusion of a bodysuit; however, her striped purple pants peek from the hem of the coat. She wears black and white wing tip shoes.

Plot

Bachelor Route

On Day 1, while investigating the deaths of Simon Kain and Isidor Burakh, the Bachelor will be directed to speak to Yulia Lyuricheva by Alexander Saburov. Yulia will tell the Bachelor about the Olgimskys, as well as several other prominent women of the Town, namely Eva Yan, Anna Angel, and Lara Ravel.

The following day, on Day 2, the Bachelor offers to help Lara with her plans for the 'House of the Living'. Lara tells him that Yulia had offered to donate some money in order to buy supplies for the House of the Living. The Bachelor visits Yulia at the Trammel and receives her donation of 3000 coins. Yulia expresses concern for Lara, and considers the task too much for just one person.

On Day 4, the Bachelor learns that Vlad the Younger had tasked several women in Town to test various medicines. The Bachelor insists that it is too dangerous and wants to test the medicine himself. Yulia Lyuricheva is one of the women who were going to test the medicines. The Bachelor visits her to take the medicine and after completing the test, he can return to her and she will give him a Repellent Cape.

On Day 6, the Bachelor learns that the Cathedral's quarantine was broken the night before and that everyone inside has died of the Plague. Several women are suspected of having entered the Cathedral and bringing the Plague with them, one of which is Yulia Lyuricheva. The Bachelor visits Yulia and take a sample of her blood to examine.

On Day 8, the Bachelor can visit Yulia at the Trammel as an option to ask if she was able to purchase a bottle of Panacea from Vlad Jr. at a reasonable price.

On Day 9, the Bachelor receives several letters from Yulia, Anna Angel, and Lara Ravel. He learns that Lara plans to attempt an assassination on the newly arrived Army Commander, Alexander Block and that Anna and Yulia are conspiring to stop her. If he speaks to Yulia, she will ask the Bachelor to tell Block that she is the one who is planning to assassinate him, not Lara.

If the Bachelor complies with Yulia, he will return to the Trammel to speak to her. Upon approaching the Trammel, he finds five soldiers around her house, all of whom become aggressive and attack the Bachelor. After dealing with the soldiers, he enters the Trammel and Yulia will give him her bottle of Panacea.

On Day 12, as Yulia Lyuricheva is one of the Changeling's Bound, there is a chance that an Executor will be stationed outside of the Trammel with Yulia infected inside. If the player wishes for the Changeling to attend the Cathedral meeting, they must give Yulia a Shmowder or a Panacea to cure her.

Haruspex Route

Yulia is otherwise never spoken to in the Haruspex's route except potentially on Day 12, as she is one of the Changeling's Bound. There is a chance that an Executor will be stationed outside of the Trammel with Yulia infected inside. If the player wishes for the Changeling to attend the Cathedral meeting, they must give Yulia a Shmowder or a Panacea to cure her.

Changeling Route

On Day 3, Katerina Saburova will ask the Changeling to convince Eva Yan to leave the Utopians and join the Humbles. In order to learn more about Eva, the Changeling visits Yulia Lyuricheva, learning about what will affect Eva best, as Yulia "holds the hooks to her heart". Yulia is impressed at the Changeling acting on the will of her mother.

On Day 6, Alexander Saburov suspects that Yulia is responsible for the outbreak of the Plague in the Cathedral by breaking quarantine. When talking to Yulia, the Changeling discovers that Yulia had given several items to her twin sister, which were found in the Cathedral in the morning. She speaks with the Changeling at length about the consequences of fate.

On Day 11, as one of the Changeling's Bound, Yulia Lyuricheva may be chosen to be spoken to in relation to the main quest. She talks to the Changeling about this death is ultimately her fate, but also contends that she will live for hundreds of years, much like Simon Kain.

Notes

• In the original English translation of the game, her name was written as "Julia Luricheva".
• Yulia is stated to "have the intellect and willpower of a man", by the Bachelor. This dated implication, combined with her short haircut, Bohemian fashion, design notes by Ice-Pick Lodge, and close fondness for other women, suggests that Yulia is a lesbian.
• Yulia holds a deep fondness and affection for Eva Yan that is indicative of romantic feelings. Though Yulia believes that Eva does not understand her, it seems that those feelings are reciprocated.
• Yulia is a proclaimed atheist.
• As with all Humbles, Yulia can be chosen as a sacrifice in the Changeling Route, but may also be chosen to be of the surviving two Bound.
