The Shelter ("Приют") is a mansion owned by Lara Ravel. It is located in the northern part of the Town in the Flank. Before his death, Captain Ravel was the previous owner of the mansion.

Description

The Shelter is a building open to any individual in Town to find refuge and comfort within its walls.

Pathologic

All playable healers may rest in the beds in the main room.

Pathologic 2

The Shelter contains a number of cabinets, all but one of which can store items indefinitely. It also has a sofa where the Haruspex may sleep, and a clock to save at. In the room opposite from where Lara resides, there is a large cabinet that is not safe for the player's stored items, as it will occasionally be stocked with items from Lara.

Bachelor Route

On Day 1, the Bachelor can speak with Lara Ravel to learn the location of a house that supposedly holds a Shmowder cache. After investigating, the Bachelor will only find one Shmowder which he can then give to Lara Ravel for a reward, or keep for himself.

On Day 2, the Bachelor can visit and assist Lara Ravel in establishing a ‘House of the Living’, which is a building that she plans to convert into a shelter for people to hide from the Plague. However, the building she chose is discovered to be infected and dangerous. Lara Ravel decides to continue to help as best she can, but is unfortunately limited in only sheltering a few people in her actual home.

On Day 3, if the Bachelor visits Lara Ravel at the Shelter, she will give him some Bread and Milk.

On Day 4, the Bachelor can pick up medicine from Lara Ravel as part of a medicine test. He will also need to speak to her about using the Shelter as an isolation ward while setting up sanitary measures. While finding out what happened to the water supply, the Bachelor may visit Lara Ravel when directed to by Aspity.

On Day 5, the Bachelor will need to speak to Lara Ravel to determine the location of the Haruspex.

On Day 6, Lara Ravel is one of the women who are suspected of bringing the disease into the Cathedral during the previous night. The Bachelor will have to draw some of her blood and examine it.

On Day 8, the Bachelor can ask Lara Ravel if she was able to purchase a Panacea from Vlad the Younger at a reasonable price.

On Day 9, the Bachelor will receive a letter from Lara Ravel asking him to meet her at the Shelter. She asks him for a gun and she will give the Bachelor her phial of Panacea if he gives her the gun from Anna Angel.

On Day 12, as Lara Ravel is one of the Changeling's Bound, there is a chance that an Executor will be stationed outside of the Shelter with Lara Ravel being infected inside. If the player wishes for the Changeling to attend the Cathedral meeting, they must give Lara Ravel a Shmowder or a Panacea to cure her.

Haruspex Route

On Day 4, the Haruspex will need to speak with Lara Ravel about the location of Stanislav Rubin. Lara Ravel is willing to speak to him and provide the location of Rubin's prosectorium during conversation if his reputation is high enough to do so.

Changeling Route

On Day 2, the Changeling can visit and assist Lara Ravel with establishing her 'House of the Living'. Lara Ravel asks the Changeling to make sure that the Harpist is safe, as he is yet to report back on the situation of the designated house. Lara Ravel will also help the Changeling in her quest to convert Grace to the Humbles ideology.

On Day 4, Lara Ravel will send a letter asking the Changeling to help protect the Haruspex. If the Changeling warns him, Lara Ravel will give her a reward at the Shelter.

On Day 6, the Changeling can find the Bachelor here from 14:00 to 16:00.

On Day 11, as one of the Changeling's Bound, Lara Ravel may be chosen to be spoken to in relation to the main quest.

Lara Ravel's mansion. We used to call her Gravel, because she always had an edge on us. I can always have a nap here.

Sometimes people who've lost their homes to the outbreak find shelter here. Such was Gravel's last request.

Day 1
On Day 1, the Haruspex can visit Lara Ravel in the Shelter shortly after his arrival in town. If the visit occurs before 20:00, Lara will improve the Haruspex's reputation in her district as well as the Chine and Backbone districts. Should the Haruspex sleep, Lara will wake him up saying she hears strange noises upstairs, which will lead the Haruspex to find the Changeling rummaging upstairs in a locked bedroom. In the room opposite from where Lara resides, there is a large cabinet that contains a Knife, a Fish, and a Toast for the Haruspex to take.
Day 3
On Day 3, the Haruspex can visit Lara and discuss reuniting their group of friends. If the Haruspex can find and persuade Bad Grief (found in his Nest) and Stanislav Rubin (found in Maria Kaina's chamber of the Crucible) before the Town Hall meeting (which starts at 19:00, or if the Haruspex enters the Stillwater in search of the Bachelor.), then the four of them will get together at the Gumstone after midnight.
Day 4
On Day 4, Lara Ravel will tell the Haruspex of her plans to convert her Shelter into the ‘House of the Living,’ for which she will need a water barrel to supply water for the people she will be housing. The broken water pump outside of the Shelter can be repaired, however this is not enough to support the Shelter's needs. At the same time, the Bachelor will ask the Haruspex to bring him a sample of water from barrels found in the Knots Quarter so that he may test it for plague. These two requests are mutually exclusive to each other.
Throughout the Knots Quarter, three different barrels are available for the Shelter's needs or the Bachelor's testing. Each is guarded by a Militia guardsman, who will reluctantly allow the Haruspex to either send their respective barrel to the Shelter or take a sample for the Bachelor.
  • If the Haruspex sends a barrel to the Shelter, the Flank district as a whole will become infected on Day 5 (and later burned on Day 6).
  • If the Haruspex brings a water sample to the Bachelor (which will produce Muddy Water), all water barrels will be permanently removed from the Knots Quarter.
  • If both requests are ignored, their respective consequences can be avoided entirely.
Additional food (1 Bread, 1 Milk, & 1 Raisin) can be found in the large cabinet in the room opposite from where Lara normally resides. Any items left in this cabinet on Day 3 will be permanently despawned.
Spoiler warning: Significant plot details follow.
Day 10
On Day 10, if Lara Ravel is alive and uninfected, at noon the Haruspex will wonder what she is up to in the Shelter. When he arrives, he will learn from one of the Townsfolk inside that she has left for the Town Hall to kill Alexander Block. Lara's Reflection can be found in the study, and her Crumpled Letter, some Revolver Ammo, and 1 Beetle can be found in the large cabinet in the room opposite from where Lara normally resides. Unlike items found on Day 4, these items will not despawn anything left in the cabinet on Day 9; they will simply not appear if the cabinet is already full.
Day 11
On Day 11, the Bachelor will be found in the Shelter, having murdered one of the couriers sent by Aglaya Lilich to Alexander Block. If Lara Ravel is alive, she will be upstairs in one of her closed off bedrooms.
Significant plot details end here.

Residents of the Shelter will be under threat of being infected with Sand Pest on Day 7, Day 9, and Day 11. Depending on the player's actions, they may also be at risk on Day 5.

Notes

  • In Pathologic Classic HD the soundtrack that plays within the Shelter is Indoor Main.
  • The soundtrack playing in the Shelter in Pathologic 2 is Window To The Past.
  • The Shelter and the House of the Living are the same location in Pathologic 2, rather than their separate locations in Pathologic.

If the Haruspex repairs the broken water pump outside of the Shelter, Lara doesn't make any specific comment or thanks him; it only restores a water source for the player to use when visiting the Flank.

  • Lara will not make any unique comment about the Bachelor in the Shelter.
