Eva Yan is the owner of The Stillwater, the house in which the Bachelor boards in after first arriving in the town.

Description

Eva Yan is a kind woman, overflowing with love and soul. She is also a pampered and posh girl who is displeased with dirt and untidy things. She dresses in strange, revealing clothes that are somewhat reminiscent of an attempt at copying the dresses of the Kin's Herb Brides. She does not fear change, nor death, but she does fear the Sand Plague. She is hopeful, if naive, and is among those who consoles themselves by looking to the Capital for help with the outbreak. She adores the Utopian ideals, and is friend to many of those who share her values.

Background

Before the beginning of Pathologic 2 Eva Yan became mistress of the Stillwater. She is currently the only person in The Town who is able to spend an extended amount of time within the strange building, as it is now mainly used a guesthouse for outsiders.

Appearance

Eva has blond hair that she keeps tied up, with blue eyes and a round face. She wears mostly shawls and skirts on her body, made of blue and red fabric. She wears long red gloves up to her elbows, and has red cords wrapped across her shoulder with jewellery dangling off them. She wears one single sock on her right foot.

Shortly before the outbreak Eva Yan allows the Bachelor to stay in the upstairs Loft of the Stillwater. On the day of the outbreak Eva is confronted by the Haruspex, who has coming looking for the Bachelor.

During the epidemic Eva sees strange dreams, ones she details as seeing bones in the snow-melt of a cemetery, one she believes is one that exists in the Capital. The bones may have been hers, or they may have been the Bachelor's, but she is unable to tell. Later in the dream she saw the plague come after her. This dreams leads her to question the purpose of her life.

Following the arrival of the Inquisitor Eva Yan can be found outside admiring the Cathedral.

Eva Yan can be seen in the Diurnal Ending with Georgiy Kain and Victor Kain, looking across the river. They are planning to cross and create a new settlement on the other side.

In the Nocturnal Ending, Eva can be found inside of the Cathedral alongside a group of Herb Brides as she wishes to join them. She is warned of the dangerous game she is playing by the Haruspex.

The Marble Nest

During the events of The Marble Nest, Gull tells Bachelor that sometimes she's able to hear Eva's voice emanating from the Stillwater, even after Eva's suicide. It is also revealed that candles in the Stillwater do not stay lit.

Reversed audio plays when the Bachelor walks close to the Stillwater. The audio hints that, before the events of The Marble Nest, Eva was taking care of the Bachelor -- particularly keeping other people from bothering him while he slept.

She has an amazing body which she isn’t ashamed to show off on any possible occasion. Her marvelous golden locks are long enough to reach her knees; it's so long Eva can wrap herself up into it and do the most exotic hairstyles. Personality: Without a single thought in her head, Eva nonetheless manages to create a beautiful and promising atmosphere for the people around her while not having a clue about it. Even her looks hold a promise of a setting where one doesn’t need to do anything, but appear as they are in their uncouth guise. Eva is an odd woman, but she is truly kind, and appreciated as a virtuous and loving soul by even the most critical. She is the first person in the town to offer the Bachelor a place to stay. She is intrigued by death and does not seem to fear it. However, she does fear the plague, as well as the Ripper. She seems to be troubled by aging.

She has little modesty about her body, and doesn't mind striking up casual relationships. She admires the Bachelor and Yulia Lyuricheva; Yulia and Eva both speak of each other very highly. She gets along well with the Stamatins, and both of the twins say she has greatly supported their ideas from the beginning. She is in a romantic relationship with Andrey Stamatin, though if asked about it he says she loves whoever else she chooses, suggesting that their relationship is open.

Plot

Bachelor Route

On Day 1 as the mistress and owner of the Stillwater - a guest house for outsiders - Eva Yan allows the Bachelor to live in the upstairs for the duration of his stay in the Town. On the morning of the Bachelor's arrival Eva is distressed by some loud noises in the garden outside. She requests that the Bachelor check on the commotion, believing that they may be a threat to her. She also acts as a guide to the Town, explaining the relationship between the Kains to the Bachelor. She informs the Bachelor that he should see Georgiy Kain first, and, alongside that, see his niece Maria Kaina who wishes to speak with him.

On Day 2, Eva will suggest to the Bachelor that he escape with her, Andrey Stamatin, and Peter Stamatin. She will direct the Bachelor to speak with Andrey at the Broken Heart. The escape is ultimately a failure. Though Andrey and Peter have their own reasons for not meeting at the Train Station to escape The Town, Eva did not arrive as she was so anxious that she forgot to sleep and fainted. When the Bachelor speaks to her in the Stillwater following the failed attempt to inform her that they could not have escaped anyway, Eva becomes dejected, lamenting that it would be better for her to die than to live through the oncoming crisis.

On Day 7 Eva Yan will always die, having thrown herself from the banisters of the Cathedral. She believes that in doing so she will imbue the Cathedral with it's missing soul, completing the otherwise barren and empty structure.

On Day 12 Eva Yan's spirit is present in the overlook of the Cathedral. She will insist that her death was worthy, content in her choice.

Haruspex Route

On Day 1 the Haruspex can speak to Eva, though she is clearly quite scared of him as she threatens to scream if he comes close to her. If the Haruspex speaks threateningly to Eva Yan, he will lose a significant amount of reputation.

On Day 9 Eva Yan will inform the Haruspex that the Bachelor is, for once, not in the Stillwater, and has gone to the Polyhedron. As it happens, the Bachelor has been captured by the Dogheads after attempting to give them blank rifle cartridges instead of live ammo. The Dogheads will request 30 rounds of Rifle Ammo to free him. Eva back at the Stillwater can provide these to him.

Changeling Route

On Day 3, the Changeling can visit Eva Yan to convince her of the ideology of the Humbles, in exchange for a 30 reputation boost and 1000 coins from Katerina Saburova. To hook Eva the Changeling uses her feelings for the Bachelor to advise her to answer her questions plainly. Eva ultimately cannot be swayed from her Utopian ideals as she has fallen too deeply in love with utopia and its miracles. She does, however, concede that she may give a sacrifice either way. Her only wish is that the Changeling take care of the Bachelor following her death. If the Changeling is helping Anna Angel, she can question Eva about the location of the Bachelor's research, hidden at Rubin's Prosectorium.

On Day 6 Eva will be in the Stillwater the whole day, and will confiscate many of the Changeling's possessions if she is spoken to before finding the Bachelor. Any of the Changeling's belongings that were taken will be returned to her after talking to the Bachelor.

Notes

• In the original English translation of the game, her name was written as "Eve Yahn".
• With her relationship to Andrey Stamatin, and her deep affections for Yulia Lyuricheva and other women, Eva appears to be both polyamorous and bisexual.
• Eva's death on Day 7 is unavoidable. This will not impact the player's ability to choose the Bachelor's ending in either Bachelor or Changeling's routes, however, so long as they have fulfilled other requirements.
  • Players on the Haruspex Route must still ensure she is healthy on Day 12 in order to invite the Bachelor to the Cathedral and have his ending as an option.
