The Broken Heart («Разбитое Сердце») is the largest pub in the Town and is owned by Andrey Stamatin, an architect who moved the Town many years ago. The protagonists can visit the pub to talk to Andrey and other NPCs as well as trade with the bartender.

Description

Welcome to the machine.
The Factory's subtitle

The Broken Heart is owned by Andrey Stamatin. It is possible for the player to trade with the bartender in both Pathologic and Pathologic 2 while Andrey can only be traded with in Pathologic.

Plot

Pathologic

All characters can trade with the bartender regardless of reputation.

Bachelor Route

On Day 2, the Bachelor will be asked by Eva Yan to ask Andrey Stamatin for help in escaping the town. Andrey will give the Bachelor information about Bad Grief and tell him how to obtain a free Revolver from Grief.

On Day 3, if the Bachelor visits Andrey, he will be given a bottle of Twyrine.

On Day 5, the Bachelor will find Willow Mellow at the pub.

On Day 7, after discovering that Eva Yan is missing and receiving a message via Ayan from Andrey, the Bachelor will look for him at the Broken Heart. However, Andrey will not be there and two men will be standing in his usual place. They will tell the Bachelor that Andrey has gone into the marshes to look for Eva.

On Day 10, the Bachelor needs to speak to Peter Stamatin, but finds that Peter has disappeared from his home and the place is full of army soldiers. He learns that Peter was not arrested and visits Andrey at the Broken Heart in order to find Peter. Andrey will tell the Bachelor that Peter went to look for something near a Stairway to Heaven located in the Chine.

On Day 11, the Bachelor goes to the Broken Heart to look for Andrey in order to obtain more blueprints of the Polyhedron. However, Andrey will not be there. A distressed Herb Bride tells him that Andrey was arrested by the army. After dealing with the army and not finding Andrey, the Bachelor returns to the Broken Heart and finds Andrey safe and sound in his usual spot. He is then able to obtain Andrey Stamatin's Blueprints.

Haruspex Route

The Haruspex can trade Herbs and Twyrine to Andrey Stamatin in exchange for Rifle Ammo, Revolver Ammo, Shotgun Ammo, and Shotguns starting from Day 2.

On Day 2, Andrey Stamatin and Peter Stamatin will be in the Broken Heart. Andrey will ask the Haruspex to bring him 10 sprigs of Brown Twyre in exchange for 4000 coins. Maria Kaina will also appear in the Broken Heart after accepting Andrey's request after a certain amount of time has passed.

On Day 5, Willow Mellow will be found inside the pub. After speaking with her, she can then be found outside in the area behind the pub.

On Day 12, as Andrey Stamatin is one of the Bachelor's Bound, there is a chance that an Executor will be stationed outside of the Broken Heart with Andrey being infected inside. If the player wishes for the Bachelor to attend the Cathedral meeting, they must give Andrey Stamatin a Shmowder or a Panacea to cure him.

Changeling Route

The Changeling can trade Herbs and Twyrine to Andrey Stamatin in exchange for Twyrine Extracts starting from Day 2.

On Day 2, while completing a request for Vlad the Younger, the Changeling will be directed to speak to Andrey Stamatin about the rumours that the Haruspex is capable of brewing medicinal tinctures. Andrey will confirm the efficacy of the Haruspex's tinctures.

On Day 5, the Changeling will be asked by Katerina Saburova to convert the Stamatin siblings from the 'heresy of the Utopians'. As Peter Stamatin will only entertain Katerina's request if his brother does, the Changeling must speak with Andrey in the Broken Heart. The conversation turns hostile as she and Andrey argue their faith in theology and God, and he sends her away.

This argument has no impact on the player's ability to barter with Andrey.

On Day 11, the Inquisitor asks the Changeling to deliver some documents to the Bachelor. While looking for the Bachelor, the Changeling will overhear that the Andrey has been arrested by mutinous troops and the Bachelor has gone to free him. If the Changeling goes to the Broken Heart, she will find that Andrey is indeed missing and the pub is crowded with army soldiers.

Pathologic 2

Come now, you haven't given us any time to change the set!

This entry contains potential spoilers for Pathologic 2. Read at your own risk.

The Haruspex is first able to visit the Broken Heart at the end of Day 1 where he decides to drink to his father’s memory. Here, he will meet Andrey and Peter Stamatin, as well as Vlad the Younger. Peter will give him two bottles of Twyrine as a gift.

On Day 2, if the Haruspex gains access to his father’s house and finds the key to his laboratory, he can visit Vlad the Younger in the Broken Heart once more to ask about the secret lair, as the note with the key was signed “V.O”.

On Day 3, Georgiy Kain will ask the Haruspex to confirm Andrey and Peter’s safety after the outbreak hits the town. Andrey will be in the Broken Heart, and he will demand the Haruspex confirm his brother’s safety instead. Notkin and Khan will also be found here, discussing a plan to visit a “dead house” in the Crude Sprawl, which may be a hotbed for infection.

The Bachelor can be found late in the evening here on Day 5 for the Haruspex to deliver Bull Blood to him so he can inspect its qualities for potential medicine.

On Day 11, in his quest for the courier carrying Aglaya Lilich's orders, the Haruspex will find the bar trashed and under control of several bandits. They are holding a man claiming to be “Artemy Burakh” hostage, and will only allow the Haruspex to speak with him if he performs immediate surgery on a dying comrade of theirs. The man claiming to be “Artemy Burakh” will be seated on the stage where the Herb Bride dancer usually performs.

In the Diurnal Ending, the Bachelor will be seated in a corner of the bar, contemplating the fall of the Polyhedron. Andrey, Peter, Anna Angel and Yulia Lyuricheva may also be present, depending on their survival through the events of the game.

The Marble Nest

Architect Andrey Stamatin is dead for as long as his brother is.
Bachelor's map hover in Pathologic: The Marble Nest

The Broken Heart is located in the condemned part of the Town and is inaccessible during The Marble Nest. When hovering over the building on the map, Andrey Stamatin will be noted as alive.

Trade

In Pathologic, the bartender will buy player items and offer food, drugs, twyrine, and trinkets. The player may give Andrey herbs and twyrine in exchange for ammo, guns, and twyrine extracts.

In Pathologic 2, all trade is done with the bartender, who will sell food and drink, as well as buy different kinds of twyre from the player. Each day, there will be a specific type of twyre requested for a special deal, where the bartender will pay extra. The bartender will only offer money in return.

Item Description Details
Apple
Apple
Not too fresh, but still able to satisfy a little hunger and thirst. Each seed might one day become a tree, its roots permeating Earth.
Chestnuts
Chestnuts
There are no chestnut trees around, yet chestnuts are pervasive. Truly a town of mysteries. The game goes like this: find a nut that has traveled far, guess its name, shake it, and listen to stories from the soul trapped inside.

This originated with the Polyhedron. We didn't play it as kids.

Coffee
Coffee
Coffee beans will immediately energize you, but it's very unhealthy. You can forgo sleep with coffee - for a week or more, if need be, but it's a bad idea. Whoever refuses dreams dares fate to pass them over.
Egg
Egg
Nothing like a good egg. Delicious. The chicken has yet to be seen. People mostly eat unfertilized eggs. This is an empty illusion of possible life.
Hazelnuts
Hazelnuts
Can be munched down—with little effect. The kids here would sell their souls for a handful. The game goes like this: find a nut that has traveled far, guess its name, shake it, and listen to stories from the soul trapped inside.

This originated with the Polyhedron. We didn't play it as kids.

Kashk
Kashk
A dry, fermented dairy product. Salty. When herding cows and bulls in the steppe, odonghs often live on water and kashk for months at a time. Nothing fancy, but it's nourishing.
Lemon
Lemon
Eating a lot of lemons is bad for your teeth. They won't make you less hungry, but they're certainly an invigorating fruit. When life gives you lemons...
Milk
Milk
Warm, creamy. Satisfies hunger and thirst. Reminds me of childhood. Often used as an offering to the dead, milk serves as a reminder that all that is born must come to an end. It is said that the dead drink milk over water because the flow of water reminds them of the flow of time.
Peanuts
Peanuts
Nuts can be munched down, but they do little to sate hunger. Why then do the local kids' eyes light up when they see one? Used in the most popular game among local children, nuts are forbidden in the Polyhedron, where most of the kids fled from the plague. The "voices of nuts" were said to make the facets of the Polyhedron resonate in a bad way.
Pemmican
Pemmican
A mixture of meat, fruit, and fat. Extremely filling, only slightly revolting. Pemmican isn't eaten for pleasure. This form preserves meat and fat, so that's how odonghs prepare it before venturing into the steppe for weeks to herd bulls.
Raisins
Raisins
Once a juicy grape, now a small sweet that wouldn't satisfy an infant. If a train is late, first we run out of cookies, then chocolate, then candy. Only after that do children remember raisins.
Tan
Tan
A tasty dairy drink. Satisfies hunger, quenches thirst. The Kin once told me the best tan is made during thunderstorms, or by swearing at the milk as harsh as you can. I tried every cuss in the book, but never learned the art very well.
Toast
Toast
Soldier food. It's better to eat fresh bread. Stale bread is bad news. It doesn't breathe.
Twyrine
Twyrine
A herbal infusion. Drink to reveal places and events hidden from the naked eye. The Town calls to me. But it's hard to hear over my own thoughts. If I quiet them down, I can sense the pulse of life all over the Town.
Walnuts
Walnuts
Can be munched down—with little effect. The kids here would sell their souls for a handful. The game goes like this: find a nut that has traveled far, guess its name, shake it, and listen to stories from the soul trapped inside.

This originated with the Polyhedron. We didn't play it as kids.

Bronzebracelet
Bronze Bracelet
A very simple, old bronze bracelet. It may be hundreds of years old.

Beautiful antique piece. Earrings with ornaments of this kind are sometimes found in southeastern burial mounds.

Twyrine Extract
A valuable immunity boosting infusion made of several herbs. Its effect heavily depends on random factors: the types of herbs, the time and place the herbs were gathered, the composition of the herb mix.
